Stephanie Kemp the founder of Oohla Active Organics has been in the dance industry for over 30 years.
Artistic Director, Choreographer, Dancer, Teacher, Wife and Mom.
As a dance teacher and choreographer for over 30 years, I have never been afraid to take risks. In fact, I thrive on it. In 1990, I built a dance business in a community where I knew no one and had no roots, and today that same business is one of the largest, most successful dance studios in the country.
I have always been driven by the word “possible,” or maybe, I have always been driven by the word “impossible.” I love when someone tells me something isn’t possible. “It isn’t possible to have 600 students at one location”. “It isn’t possible to teach the beginner dancer and the most advanced dancer under the same roof”. “It isn’t possible to treat families and students with respect if you want competitive results. Most recently, “it isn’t possible to create a line of organic dance and active wear, functional and innovative, natural and affordable.”
Oohla Active Organics is a idea…an inspiration. A line of dance and active wear made from organic eco-friendly textiles including organic cotton, organic bamboo, hemp, soy, recycled plastics including recycled polyester and recycled nylon, and notions made from organic coconut shells.
Oohla is also creating “The Organic Kaboodle” a line of all natural, non toxic, hairspray, hair gel, lipstick deodorants and sunscreen. Products that dancers can take from the studio to the stage. Products that won’t compromise your health or fall short on function. Products Safe for the WHOLE family.
Why Oohla?
In 2013 my husband of 20 years was diagnosed with lymphoma, (A cancer I believe is caused by environmental pollutants) and his diagnosis forced me to make drastic changes. Fast forward to today, as my husband now fights lymphoma for the 2nd time, I am compelled to take stronger action.
If a product existed that gave you, the athlete, the dancer, the yoga instructor all of the form and function you needed without the pesticides, without the fertilizers, without the harsh chemicals, without known toxins, would you consider it. I believe you would.
I have been honored and blessed to be a part of thousands of young lives in my thirty year career and as my own teenage daughter gets ready for her first year of college, I knew the time for action was now.
Oohla Active Organics which is officially launching this summer will be the first company in the US to bring organic active wear and all natural cosmetics right into the dance studio. We want Oohla to be your company!! We will be looking for insight, feedback and direction every step of the way! If you don’t see a product on the market that you or your dancer are looking for, just let us know and we will do our best to develop it for you.
One thing is for certain, tomorrow is not a guarantee….we only have today. There are a lot of reasons not to take this “leap,” not to risk the nest egg… but the truth is, it is not in my DNA . If history and experience have taught me anything over the last 30 years, it is that anything is possible and for me, the possibilities have always been endless!
